Dannielle Tegeder
Dannielle Tegeder's drawings and paintings resemble engineering blueprints for the inner workings of a new civilization. These "safe cities" are unpeopled, underground landscapes awaiting the occupancy of a post-apocalyptic society. Each work is experienced as a cutaway, subterranean view with a horizon line delineating the surface from the land below. While the configurations vary, recurrent forms created to perform particular functions provide the foundation for this world of the future.
Dannielle Tegeder received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and presently lives and works in New York. She has had several solo exhibitions in the US and internationally, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in major institutions, such as PS1/MoMA, The New Museum, The Brooklyn Museum of Art and Artist's Space. She has been the recipient of many residencies and grants, including The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, The Fulbright Scholar Grant and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Fellowship, and most recently a Smack Mellon fellowship. Several of her drawings have recently been purchased as part of the Contemporary Drawing Collection at the Museum of Modern Art.
