London-based artist Bob Matthews utilizes computers and airbrush as complementary aesthetic approaches to his work. His paintings on canvas are devised with airbrush and constructed with intricate stencils and mask visages, while his inkjet prints stem from a paint-box program that emulates the smooth, pliable effects of airbrush. Matthews uses technology to lend conceptual work to his interrogation of natural processes and the concept of wilderness as solace. Saturating his work with an authentic palette, digitally distilled from actual colors of leaves and stones, Matthews creates visions of familiar images, which examine the utopian deification of nature and its relationship to humanity.
