Gregory Lind Gallery // Brett Goodroad : A Mended Prism Paintings and Works on Paper

A good show of Goodroad's work. The type of work that's easy enough to overlook, and which photographs only so-so, I was quite taken by some of these pieces. The artist paints in loose, barely there style which hints at art historical source material without being overly obvious. Instead, things are roughed in with nice colors, sometimes thin and immediate, sometimes more worked over. In larger pieces, I'm not sure the way large expanses are dealt with is as successful, whereas the little cluttered scenes of the smaller works feel just right. When they work though, they really do, I left smiling. Recommended.
