"3" brings together New York artist Ernesto Burgos and Bay Area artists Kyle Ranson and Derrick Snodgrass whose sculpture and painting present a visual interpretation of white noise, oscillating between darkness and beauty, chaos and catharsis. The resonance of these works is not only to be found in their craft and intricacy, but in the romance and delicacy of their subject matter.
Burgos sees his manipulation of material as a political gesture, putting systems under question and expanding the possibility of their functions. Structures are trampled, crystallized, attacked, blackened and melting down. The materials and forms innately have a reference to their past, but have been abstracted enough to function as raw building blocks for reconstruction of the spaces they occupy.
Ranson's recent works depict the mythological rape of the Sabine women and the symbolism and reconciliation of this passionate struggle. Kyle's subject matter, sometimes controversial, often demands understanding from the viewer. Yet the delicacy of his work comes through in these portraitures, humanizing his subjects with intricate detail.
Derrick Snodgrass' kaleidoscopic palate creates chaotic landscapes full of radiant energy. A reaction to overly controlled and ordered surroundings, he applies multi-layers of color to create his 'terrains.' The result is a vibrant structural breakdown of a once linear environment.

Burgos received his MFA from NYU. He lives and works in New York.
Kyle Ranson's recent exhibitions include Hope Springs Eternal, 96 Gillespie, London, UK, 2008; Apocobliss, Alice Gallery, Brussels, 2008; and This is Bliss, Holala Gallery, Barcelona, Spain, 2008. Ranson attended Maryland Institute College of Art. He lives and works in San Francisco.
Derrick Snodgrass is a self-taught artist originally from Louisville, KY. His recent exhibitions include When More is Less, 111 Minna, 2007; and The Serenade is Dead, ONSIX Gallery, 2006; both San Francisco. His work has been featured in publications, such as "Hot & Cold." He lives and works in Oakland, CA.
